What Is a Meme?
A meme is considered to be a cultural item that’s transmitted from one mind to a different. There are various ways in which to pass them on comparable to writing, speech, gestures, rituals or different imitable phenomena. Memes are the essential building block of our minds and cultures in much an equivalent approach that genes are the essential building blocks of biological life because of the approach that they self-replicate and answer selective pressures. Primarily, memes are ideas that evolve according to the same principles that govern biological evolution.
Memes spread during a similar way to contagions, passing from one person to a different. People who are smart at replicating tend to go away a lot of copies of themselves in minds and are usually written down in books or on websites that helps them to survive and sometimes thrive. People who aren’t thus smart at replicating tend to die out. The foremost well-liked version of this these days are the internet memes. At its most simple, this is often simply the passing on of a digital file or link from one person to others using strategies accessible through the internet appreciate email or instant messaging. At its heart, an online culture is an interior joke that happens to have an oversized variety of internet users in on it. These varieties have a tendency to evolve and unfold very fleetly, generally getting in and out of recognition in just days.
Internet Memes as an Idea Virus
The meme (pronounced “meem”) is typically defined as a thought, behavior or style that spreads from person to person at intervals a culture. The word meme (shortened from the Greek word “mimeme”) itself means that “that what’s imitated”.
Gifs/Memes replicate themselves from brain to brain, spreading as a virus via human consciousness. It will be same that a meme is any info that may be copied. And, if it will be copied – it will.
Memes are all around us: the means we tend to speak (information that’s derived from person to person by imitation, e.g. a catchphrase), the means we tend to wear our clothes (even the conception of carrying garments itself may be a cultural meme), any bit of knowledge, lore, and a habit (remember the “smoking is cool” meme?) – All those ideas are actually alive, and use our brains as a carrier.
All transmitted knowledge is mimetic. But not every idea and information pattern is a meme – only those that find a way to spread themselves and survive long enough to be recognized as such, are memes.
Who creates Memes?
It’s very possible you’re now thinking, who creates them? As mentioned previously, memes are not very intelligent looking, sometimes, one can’t even understand them. They are random, crazy, sometimes even ugly, stupid and all together meaningless, and if you have used any time on the Internet, you know, that this material is everywhere. However, the definition of a meme requires that the meme become popular. So, although there are much potential created every day, it’s not official. Becoming “official” is very vague and difficult to predict. The story of the Milhouse meme is a perfect example. 4chan is a forum where many of the popular memes become official. A well-known debate on this site was Milhouse, from the Simpsons.
